A New Year's Message
You may not realize it, but we built something special in 2025.
It all started in May. A few residents of Elmwood Park came together to make more news and information available for the community.
Then the newsletter engaged with readers and fostered discussion. Six “Community Conversations” were held at the public library.
Connections that formed among fellow residents prepared the community for ICE and the Border Patrol, as they deployed to the Chicagoland area and threatened all of our constitutional rights as citizens.
The Elmwood Park Advocate took initiative and published reports on ICE detentions as landscapers and roofers were targeted by federal agents. We not only did this to keep fellow residents informed but also to reduce the spread of misinformation that would cause panic.
Toward the end of the year, we celebrated the holidays with everyone and encouraged residents to show goodwill to those in Elmwood Park who were in need.
In 2026, we’ll continue to bring residents together and expand our sense of community. And the newsletter will focus on transparency and accountability, challenging officials when they unnecessarily hide records that we as taxpayers should be able to read or see.
Thank you again for making 2025 an incredible year. We look forward to sharing more local journalism in 2026.
Happy New Year!
