Village Board Meeting

The Village Board of Trustees holds their monthly meeting. A grocery tax, a change to the ordinance that allows towing without prior notice, and a change to the ordinance for storage fees on impounded vehicles are on the agenda. (Agenda available here.)
Tuesday, September 9
Coffee With a Cop
8 a.m. | Panera Bread, 7400 W. North Avenue
Come have a coffee with the community outreach officer for the Elmwood Park Police. Ask questions, share concerns, or have a conversation with a neighborhood cop.
Thursday, September 11
9/11 LemonAid: ‘Kids Helping Kids’ Charity Lemonade Stand
3 p.m. | River Forest
For 23 years, the “Kids Helping Kids” has raised over $676,000 for children’s charities—using the anniversary of a sad day to do something good. They’ll once again have lemonade, popcorn, cotton candy, a photo booth, music, and games. Funds from the event will go to Opportunity Knocks and the Thrive Counseling Center.
West Side Parks and Their Architects
6:30 p.m. | Elmwood Park Public Library
The Elmwood Park Garden Club hosts Tom Drebenstedt, a Chicago Architecture Society volunteer guide and gardening expert, who will talk about two nearby parks and their history—Jens Jensen's Columbus Park and Alfred Caldwell's Riis Park. (Rescheduled from August 7.)
Friday, September 12
Elmwood Park Public Library Blood Drive
9 a.m. | Ferrentino Meeting Room, Elmwood Park Public Library
Make an appointment. Call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit the American Red Cross website, and then come donate to the library’s blood drive. While supplies last, donors will receive a Red Cross and PEANUTS mystery bag with a T-shirt.
Saturday, September 13
“This is How We Roll” Roller Skating
10:30 a.m. | Elmwood Park Recreation Center
Free event in the gymnasium of the village’s recreation center. You must bring your own roller skates or roller blades.

Oak Park-IL Film Festival
Celebrating cinema with a connection to Oak Park, the second annual film festival will take place this weekend. Resident movie critic Don Shanahan put together a handy guide to the fest over at Film Obsessive.
“Moonstruck” (1987) starring Cher and Nicolas Cage screens at the Lake Theatre on Thursday at 7 p.m. The fest’s independent film selections screen at the Madison Street Theater throughout the weekend. (Purchase tickets here.)
