We Invite You To Our 'Community Conversation' On Migration And Belonging
Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. in the Ferrentino Meeting Room of the Elmwood Park Public Library
The Elmwood Park Advocate will hold its next “Community Conversation on the topic of immigration and what it means to belong in our village.
It will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at the Elmwood Park Public Library in the Ferrentino Meeting Room.
Silvia Rogel, a Salvadoran immigrant and Elmwood Park resident, will lead the conversation.
How does Elmwood Park welcome new residents? What positive or challenging moments have shaped your understanding of Elmwood Park as a community for immigrants?
Our Hispanic neighbors make up nearly 40 percent of the Elmwood Park population, and we want to hear from them, and September is National Hispanic Heritage Month. But this discussion will also be for any immigrant in Elmwood Park from any part of the world and for people born in the United States to share their personal experiences with immigration.
All three of our previous conversations were successful. We’re delighted by how residents have opened up and shared their perspectives. Everyone has also been respectful of one another when participating in the discussion.
These gatherings have quickly become an essential part of what we do. They give us a better sense of what’s important to residents and help us choose what stories to cover in the village.
“Community Conversations” promote the principles of the First Amendment—freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press. Each event creates a much-needed space for dialogue that reflects a diverse range of voices from different parts of the village. All of which is in line with the Elmwood Park Public Library’s core values.
We look forward to seeing you on September 20, 2025, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Ferrentino Room of the Elmwood Park Public Library. (RSVP)
