You're Invited To Our First 'Community Conversation' At The Library
Saturday, June 21, at Elmwood Park Public Library's Ferrentino Room from 1 to 2 pm
The Elmwood Park Advocate held its first “Community Conversation” on June 21, 2025. Here’s a summary of the discussion about staying informed in Elmwood Park.
Original Announcement
The Elmwood Park Advocate will host a “Community Conversation” series throughout 2025 and 2026. All residents in the village of Elmwood Park are welcome.
Each conversation will deal with a topic that is relevant to Elmwood Park and the future of the village.
Our first conversation is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at the Elmwood Park Public Library’s Ferrentino Room from 1 to 2 pm. We'll discuss how we stay informed about the village, the lack of local news and reporting on the village, and why this matters.
The library is what is known as a third space. It is not our home and typically not where we work, making it the perfect place for meeting fellow residents. It is also free to gather at the library, interact with new people, and form connections that can strengthen our community.
Additionally, conversation will take place offline and away from social media. That allows everyone in the room to have a chance to speak, share their experiences and perspectives, and feel welcome to contribute to our understanding of issues and topics.
In the library’s “Strategic Plan” [PDF] for 2025-2027, it says that part of the library’s vision is to “be a vibrant and innovative center of knowledge, creativity, and community engagement, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and enriching the lives of everyone in Elmwood Park and beyond. We aspire to be recognized as a trusted and indispensable resource, empowering individuals to explore new ideas, expand their horizons, and fulfill their potential.”
The Elmwood Park Advocate hopes through its “Community Conversation” series that we can play a small role in ensuring that the library achieves this vision.
Meetings will steer away from promoting electoral politics, partisanship, or ballot measures. Instead the meetings will focus on upholding universal rights, such as freedom of speech and the press as protected by the First Amendment.
We’ll insist that those present share the space in a manner that allows for diversity and inclusion, too.
Please join us at our first “Community Conversation” on June 21, 2025 from 1-2 pm in the Ferrentino Room of the Elmwood Park Public Library. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors.
