The Elmwood Park Advocate will hold its second “Community Conversation” on Saturday, July 19, from 3-4 p.m in the Ferrentino Room of the Elmwood Park Public Library.
This gathering will focus on making Elmwood Park a more resilient community in the face of extreme or unusual weather. We'll also invite everyone to consider our responsibility to the land in our neighborhood, especially as a matter of public health and safety.
Our discussion will answer a call that was put out by fellow resident Dianne E. Reyes at a village board meeting and shared by the Advocate. She encouraged all of us to think more deeply about what it it would take for Elmwood Park to prepare for disasters, improve our air, and better protect our drinking water.
As part of an effort to restore and expand Elmwood Park’s tree canopy, the village planted over 300 trees in 2024. Village President Angelo “Skip” Saviano praised this initiative, saying a healthy tree canopy “cleans the air, reduces noise, calms traffic, stems flooding, and even increases property values.”
This kind of public works program is crucial. It strengthens our village in the face of climate disruption and ensures that Elmwood Park’s children and grandchildren may grow up and enjoy the same village that many residents have enjoyed. And we will consider ideas for similar programs and more at our next event.
Please join us at our second “Community Conversation” on July 19, 2025 from 3-4 p.m. in the Ferrentino Room of the Elmwood Park Public Library. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors.
Our first conversation went extremely well. Residents shared their perspectives in a manner that allowed for diversity and inclusion. Everyone who spoke addressed the topic and steered clear of promoting any political campaigns. This was democracy in action, and we are eager to do this again.
We note once again that our conversations fit in with the library’s “Strategic Plan” [PDF] for 2025-2027, which says that the library will be a “vibrant and innovative center of knowledge, creativity, and community engagement, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and enriching the lives of everyone in Elmwood Park and beyond. We aspire to be recognized as a trusted and indispensable resource, empowering individuals to explore new ideas, expand their horizons, and fulfill their potential.”
The Elmwood Park Advocate through its “Community Conversation” series specifically aims to explore new ideas and expand horizons so that all of our lives in this village are enriched.
We look forward to seeing you on July 19, 2025, from 3-4 p.m. in the Ferrentino Room of the Elmwood Park Public Library.
