It's a interesting thought but unless those reps are voted on by the students of each of the schools it should be a none starter. And I would say that every school should have a rep if you're going to do it fairly. It's not a bad idea just seems like adding non-voting voices to the situation it's just going to bog it down like a committing in an office does when you're trying to get a task done.

I can also see the question of what is the point. If they're not voting what are they really doing besides what they're already doing in public comment or through submissions to the school board via other routes?

So what would be the major difference if they were sitting there and not just speaking during public comment. If they're already being ignored as you say by the school board what's to make them not be ignored when they're sitting at a chair up there?

A case could be made that school boards benefit from student representatives, and they should be voting members. There are some school boards in states throughout the country that have found this to not only be workable but also constitutional within their state. But that's not what the students at EPHS are asking for. Anyways, thanks for your opinion. —Kevin Gosztola

Do you have examples of how this was beneficial to the school boards in those other states? And we're The most benefits only seen in those states were the students had voting power?

Also in those states that you said are examples were students can vote. How were those students placed on the board? Were they elected by fellow students or did they run in local elections?

I would also ask you Kevin. How is a non-voting seat anymore beneficial then students showing up during public comment and speaking? It's pretty evident that many folks including yourself feel the school board isn't listening to the students. So how would them sitting in chairs up there change that situation?

I'm really asking these questions as I am in the group of people you need to convince this is going to be more of a benefit to the stakeholders as a whole.

Maybe things have changed since I was in high school there but we had political clubs that directly interacted with the board at that time that were the voice of the students. They would meet monthly with the school board to discuss these issues. Those folks who with ahead of those clubs were elected by the student body. No we did not have her presentation from the grammar schools I will say that.
