At the Taste of Elmwood Park, The Lounge Puppets transformed for a moment into the ultimate Ozzy Osbourne cover band and paid tribute to the godfather of hard and heavy rock music who died on July 22.
Lounge Puppets lead singer Peter Greco was born and raised in Elmwood Park. He put on a pair of purple shades and invited everyone in Central Park to join the band in celebration.
The band could have chosen “Crazy Train,” but they went with the power ballad “Mama I’m Coming Home”—a song that has come to define the last days of Osbourne’s life. His final performance of the tune at the “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert on July 5 brought tens of thousands of people to tears.
Listening to The Lounge Puppets’ full set was like entering Ozzy’s Boneyard, a SiriusXM channel that Osbourne curated—Kiss, Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Whitesnake, etc. The band has over 20 years of experience, and they sound phenomenal.
Thanks to The Lounge Puppets for giving local fans of the Ozzman (and Black Sabbath) a chance to sing along and honor a musician who forever changed rock n’ roll.
