Got a News Tip?
The Elmwood Park Advocate is committed to protecting the privacy of sources who come forward with news or information, which residents should know about the village.
We use Signal, a free, end-to-end encrypted messaging app, to receive confidential communications from potential sources.
Before submitting a news tip, please read the following:
—Download the Signal app and setup an account
—Enable disappearing messages. Go to “Signal Settings,” select “Privacy,” and then select “Default timer for new chats.” (You can also set disappearing messages for a specific chat.)
—Avoid initially sharing details that could reveal your identity unless you believe it is necessary
—Do not contact the newsletter from your workplace. Using workplace devices or online accounts and networks at your workplace may put your privacy at risk.
—Do not reach out to the newsletter in any channel or network that your employer can see (like a Facebook group, etc)
—Keep the circle of people who know you are submitting a news tip to the newsletter very small.
Your safety, along with any risks to your livelihood, take priority. If you believe there could be risks, consult an attorney before contacting the newsletter via Signal.
Send news tips to the newsletter’s editor by looking up the following username on Signal: kgosztola.53
When submitting a news tip, we encourage you to submit as many facts as possible. Think in terms of who, what, when, where, why, and how.
Please send any documents, files, photos, etc, that you might have as evidence to support your news tip. Just because you share evidence does not mean we will publish this material, but we need to be able to verify that what you share to ensure our reporting remains accurate and truthful.
You may even want to let us know why you believe the news tip is important to Elmwood Park or the newsletter.
